The PULS Conferences on Pulse Investigations in Chemistry, Physics, and Biology have been organized, at various locations in Poland, since 1985. These conferences were initially focused on the pulse radiolysis technique, available since 1983 at the electron accelerator facility in Lodz, but soon evolved into wide-scope interdisciplinary meetings which gathered scientists from the leading centers of radiation chemistry and photochemistry working on kinetics and mechanisms of fast reactions. The latest meeting of this series took place in Krakow (Poland) in 2008.

The Reaction Kinetics in Condensed Matter (RKCM) meetings have been focused on the mechanisms of fast physicochemical processes, especially those which involve the reactants diffusion. The first meeting of this series took place in Moscow in 2010, continuing the tradition of earlier discussion forums on the diffusion-controlled reactions. At the second RKCM meeting, held in Lochow (Poland) in 2012, the focus was visibly shifted from theory to experiments. At the latest RKCM meeting in Orleans (France) in 2014, the scope was further extended to the important field of biophysical processes.

Looking at the recent progress in fast kinetic studies, and being encouraged by the members of both the PULS and RKCM communities, we have decided to continue the tradition of both meetings and organize the merged PULS/RKCM Conference in Lodz in 2018. By doing so, we hope to establish a new forum that covers a wide range of sub-disciplines and promotes interactions between experiment and theory.
